Brigadier General Scott McKenzie
Originally from Abbotsford, BC, Brigadier-General Scott McKenzie joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1989 and subsequently attended Royal Roads Military College where he received his Bachelor of Science in Computer and Space Science. After commissioning in 1993, he joined the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers.
Brigadier-General McKenzie has commanded in the field Army at every level from platoon to formation, with particular highlights being his appointment as Commanding Officer of 1 Service Battalion from 2013-2015, and as Commander 3rd Canadian Division Support Group from 2017-2019.
Brigadier-General McKenzie has held a number of Army and joint staff appointments at the tactical, operational and strategic levels, most recently as Special Advisor to the Chief of the Defence Staff. He had the honour of serving as Director of the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers from 2016-2017, and is currently serving as the Canadian Armed Forces Rugby Patron.
Brigadier-General McKenzie’s operational experience includes a deployment to Bosnia as 3rd Battalion the Royal Canadian Regiment Battle Group Maintenance Officer in 1998, and two deployments to Kandahar, Afghanistan; first as National Support Element Deputy Commanding Officer in 2006, and subsequently as Chief National Coordination and Commanding Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force – Afghanistan in 2009.
Brigadier-General McKenzie is a graduate of the Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College and the Canadian Forces College. He also holds a Masters of Electrical Engineering and a Masters of Defence Studies from the Royal Military College, and has been awarded the Project Management Competency Development Level 2 designation.
Brigadier-General McKenzie and his family reside in Ottawa, where he remains engaged in the old boys’ rugby community, although these contributions are now, by necessity, mainly of a social nature.
