Colonel Jim Howard OBE
Colonel Howard commanded his first Challenger 2 tank troop in 2001 and commanded the Royal Tank Regiment in 2018. During his time at regimental duty, he served on armoured operations in Bosnia, Kosovo and multiple tours of Iraq, also training in a broad spectrum of environments, including the Omani desert, Belizean jungles and the Arctic Circle.
Colonel Howard’s principal areas of staff expertise are training and capability acquisition. His training experience ranges from instructing at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst through to Chief of Staff for Army collective training. His capability acquisition background is focused on Special Forces light mobility and heavy armour.
He is currently employed as the Deputy Team Leader for Land Combat Vehicles, the Defence Equipment & Support team responsible for the delivery of Challenger 3, Boxer and Future All-Terrain Vehicle.
