Major General Gerald Ewart-Brookes
Major General Ewart-Brookes was Commissioned from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1990. He spent much of his early career as a troop commander in Germany, Northern Ireland and in the Balkans. He finished his time as a captain as the sole logistic officer within the Directorate Special Forces. As a Major, he completed a MSc in Defence Logistics Management, was a Brigade Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) and deployed his sub-unit (60 Sqn RLC) on to Afghanistan in 2007.
Following promotion to Lieutenant Colonel in 2009, he served on the Directing Staff of the Advanced Command and Staff Course and then took command of 13 Air Assault Support Regiment RLC; a wonderful tour of duty that included a second deployment to Afghanistan and a period of Brigade re-orientation to contingent readiness. As a Colonel, he became DCOS 3 (UK) Division supporting the Formation’s final tours in Afghanistan and then refocusing it for readiness and divisional warfighting. After attending the Higher Command and Staff Course in 2015, he was co-opted onto its directing staff for 2 years.
In 2017 he took command of 102 Log Bde before then unexpectedly moving to its sister formation 101 Log Bde; he is, therefore, one of only two officers fortunate enough to have the pleasure of commanding both Divisional Logistic Brigades. He then had the fortune to spend a fascinating 9 months on Industrial Placement with DHL where, amongst other things, he focused on the company’s preparations for Brexit and response to COVID-19. From June 2020, he was Head Logistics (Army) responsible for the procurement of all the British Army’s operating and training stocks. In April 2022, he was ′despatched′ to NATO’s Joint Support Enabling Command (in Ulm) as the Deputy Chief of Staff (Plans) and is now immersed in the development of Reinforcement and Sustainment Plans that underpin SACEURs Deterrence and Defence of Euro Atlantic Area…and loving it!
Major General Ewart-Brookes is married to Keely, a Specialist Educational Needs School Leader; he has two ‘children’ Tom and Em both now at University and a Staffy ‘Dotty the Therapy Dog’. He enjoys running (when injury niggles allow it), road cycling (when it’s dry and warm!) and MTB (trail and downhill whatever the weather). Latterly, an emerging mid- life crisis has resulted in him becoming a fledgling ‘petrol head’ too.
