Francis Griffiths joined the Royal Navy as a Marine Engineer Officer in 2001, studying Mechanical Engineering at Newcastle University.

Francis has served at sea in a variety of platforms including survey ships, frigates, destroyers, an amphibious ship and an aircraft carrier. He has also held a variety of roles ashore including a 2 year exchange with the Royal Canadian Navy, working in an engineering support role within the Maritime Pacific Command.

Promoted to Commander in 2022, Francis is now the Capability Sponsor for surface platforms, working within the Royal Navy's Develop Directorate to design 'The Navy After Next'. Within Francis' portfolio is consideration of future power and energy solutions for surface platforms and he is involved in a number of tasks in this area.
