Does the Future of Warfare Lie Underground?: Austria’s Colonel Peter Hofer Explains

 

The start of the Israel-Gaza war has again highlighted the challenges of conducting modern warfare in tunnels or underground spaces. Subsurface warfare is stripping militaries of their key capabilities when it comes to the land domain - tank, artillery, and air support. Austria is leading the way when it comes to subterranean battlefields, Colonel Peter Hofer from the Theresian Military Academy told Defence Director Harry Macloud during the Future Land Forces event in Warsaw.
